Burundi: Why are General Evariste Ndayishimiye and Colonel Gélase Ndabirabe so focused on Rwanda?
We will have heard Gélase Ndabirabe, then spokesperson for the cnddfdd, accuse Rwanda and its leaders of all evils, to the point of daring to say that the person who stopped the genocide of the Tutsi in 1994 was the one who started it. Here is one of the excerpts from his speech of February 17, 2016: ‘’For being involved in various events in the history of Burundi, going so far as to kill our dear President Cyprien NTARYAMIRA, Paul KAGAME should already think about give it to us because the truth can be stifled for a day or months but it ends up hatching … ”.
Gélase Ndabirabe knows very well that Cyprien Ntaryamira died with Juvénal Havyarimana in their plane which was shot down over Kanombe in 1994. It is not his responsibility to establish the responsibilities on the people who are at the base of this action because he does not did not investigate this. But, according to our sources, it seems that Gélase Ndabirabe, with many other members of Frodebu whose names we will reveal when the time comes, were in Kanombe in Kabeza where they had a permanent presence for this party. No one is unaware that this party was strongly established in this northern country of Burundi and that it is from there that they came to Burundi for the electoral campaign, then participate in the elections which they won without too much difficulty because they played on the ethnic card, an ideology they had learned in the school of Juvenal Havyarimana. During their election campaign, they went door to door, teaching Hutus the exclusion ideology learned in Rwanda. It was then that they made the Hutus understand that they absolutely must win the elections because there are many of them and that otherwise there will have been cheating and that therefore all the Tutsis will have to be killed. The trigger was not the elections but rather the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye. The planned genocide did indeed take place in October 1993. The Frodebu leaders who had taught this ideology returned to Rwanda to their godfather Havyarimana. This is how the 1994 genocide against the Rwandan Tutsis came about when many Frodebu members were in Rwanda. Gélase Ndabirabe may also have been there. He, like other extremist Burundian Hutus who were in Rwanda in 1994, is said to have participated in one way or another in the genocide of the Rwandan Tutsis. He is said to have fled to Zaire (now DR Congo) at the same time as the interahamwe genocidaires after the coup, when the RPF forces arrived who stopped the genocide and who were able to save what remained to be saved. This is why he is so bent on Rwanda, insulting its leaders; he is no different from those who did the genocide, he went to their school.
It turns out that he is not the only one because even President Evariste Ndayishimiye is said to have undergone military training in Gikongoro, alongside the interahamwe. A French major was responsible for their military training.
After the genocide of the Rwandan Tutsis in 1994, Gélase Ndabirabe joined the nascent rebellion in Bukavu, whose leading mind at that time was Leonard Nyangoma. After the training, Evariste Ndayishimiye reportedly returned directly to the University of Burundi. He would join the rebellion in rural Bujumbura a year later in 1995.
URN HITAMWONEZA believes that the above justifies the anti-Rwanda behaviour of Evariste Ndayishimiye and Gélase Ndabirabe who do not wish to see improved relations between our two countries. Evariste Ndayishimiye surrounds himself with all the recognized criminals, some of whom are under international sanctions, just to make the defence together to protect their power because they know that if it happens that it falls under the hands of honest and patriotic people, their place automatically becomes prison. Evariste Ndayishimiye does not intend to release the interahamwe who are within the security institutions and who have built solid positions in the Kibira because they have mutual aid agreements that they have signed together. He ignores all this and accuses Rwanda of taking Burundian refugees hostage who want to return at a time when Rwanda and the UNHCR keep reminding refugees who so wish to register in order to facilitate their return home. Instead, some refugees, “cndd fdd special envoys” in the camps, are content to write letters, just to discredit the host country, because they know the way to go. It is clear that they are playing the game of the power of Gitega who wants to see them all return to eliminate them one by one those who were able to escape death in 2015. Those who want to return do not seek to take the others by force; it is up to each refugee to make a decision to return when the security conditions are met. As for the Burundian people, it is time if it is not late to refuse to always be a victim of the errors of our so-called leaders. Evariste Ndayishimiye and Gélase Ndabirabe and the whole clique are not ready to forge good relations with Rwanda. Who will suffer? It is the people who need to benefit from trade between the two countries. We must succeed in preventing those who blame themselves for their mistakes from taking the entire people hostage.
