Burundi: A new form of killings under Evariste Ndayishimiye: the practice of the interahamwe of beheading after rape.
In Burundi, the authorities keep saying that peace and security are total. And what will they say to Rogoberta Menchu Tum, he who says that: ” Peace is not only the absence of war: as long as there is poverty, racism, discrimination and exclusion, we will hardly be able to achieve a world of peace. ”
This sentence should be for the military clique in power, an essay exercise to see if really what they say to the public corresponds to the daily reality of Burundians.
They mobilize the minimum financial resources that the country has available to organize prayer crusades to thank God for doing this or that. State officials, farmers spend three days doing nothing. And the consequences are visible. Burundi is the poorest country on the planet. However, its basement is very rich in minerals.
In addition, Burundians who are not members of the cnddfdd seem to be Burundians of the second zone (abanyagihugu), they do not have the same rights as the first (abenegihugu). Even among the cnddfdd, there is a clique which monopolizes all the wealth of the country, the others receiving only a few crumbs. Non-members are not even entitled to employment, let alone state contracts. The military clique is making efforts to ruin even those who had investments in the country (especially the Tutsis).
Opposition people are regularly killed in total silence. The killing machine is really on. The imbonerakure were trained and the weapons were distributed to them. The members of the FDRL, the interahamwe were recruited and posted within the units of the defence and security corps; others had the mission to support this militia of the cnddfdd, the imbonerakure. To these are added members of the defence and security corps selected (the most zealous) to carry out missions of the military clique to kill, abduct and torture Tutsis or Hutus of the opposition, particularly members of the CNL of Agathon Rwasa.
A new practice can be observed in recent days; at least with the new power of generals Evariste Ndayishimiye, Allain Guillaume Bunyoni and Gervais Ndirakobuca alias Ndakugarika. With the power of the late Nkurunziza Pierre, people were killed and thrown into rivers and lakes, forests and bushes, public roads. These could be identified except that the administration hastily buried them. An instruction received from the high authorities of the state. According to our sources, some people already tortured by the intelligence services were burned with acid; no way to see the corpse. This is a practice that was mostly used from 2015.
A practice observed since Evariste Ndayishimiye took power has been to rape girls and women and then behead them. The men are simply killed and beheaded. This new form of killing is starting to spread across the country. We can cite a few examples documented in recent days: Marie Annick Ndayishemeze, 18, was killed with a knife in her throat (not completely beheaded), after having raped her. His body was discovered near the Musongati commune of the Rutana Province. In Karuzi, near Nyamugari, in Buhiga commune, another body of another 18-year-old girl was discovered on June 30, 2020. Again, the girl was first raped, then killed and beheaded. The same scenario happened in Muramvya, in the centre of the country where a corpse of a woman named Anita was discovered on July 11, 2020 in a wheat field in Gatwaro. The woman was also raped and then beheaded.
As for the men, two decapitated corpses were discovered on June 27, 2020 in Ruhembe in Bukinanyana commune of the Cibitoke province. Another body of a man was discovered on July 4, 2020 floating on Tanganyika Lac near Mukungu in Nyanza Lac commune on July 4, 2020. The administration quickly ordered to bury him without identification.
Two other people were kidnapped, one in Ngozi, the other in Bujumbura, and have not been heard from for over two weeks. The risk of finding their beheaded corpses like the others is great.
What kind of security for the Burundians that the authorities sing about when Burundians are regularly killed, kidnapped and then killed without any prosecution? All Burundians live in fear; everyone is waiting their turn.
As we said above, this practice of raping and then killing by decapitating comes from members of the Interahamwe FDRL. It is a genocide practice used by the interahamwe in the Rwandan genocide of 1994 that was taught to the imbonerakure. Either it is these interahamwe who are deployed in Burundi who do it, or the imbonerakure who attended the school of the FRRL members.
What are Evariste Ndayishimiye and his team doing? Why does he want to clutter the public with good declarations of intent when in practice we observe the worst on the ground? Is he not able to change the situation or does he not have the goodwill to do so?
According to Frederic Bamvuginyumvira, an opposition member in exile, Evariste Ndayishimiye knows he does not have the strength and the means to restore peace and security in the country. He knows that his candidacy was disputed by the team of the late Nkurunziza, but it was imposed by military force. Then, supported by the same clique of officers, He imposed himself on power by cheating the results of the elections of May 2020. He then seems unable to restore order and security because the machine that killed yesterday is the same that kills today, with improved working methods. He is content with good speeches to show the public and the international community that everything is white. Tomorrow he will say that it is not him, that it is the disruptors. All the responsibility rests on his head. He must know it; and he will have to answer for these crimes someday.
URN HITAMWONEZA finds that this new practice of raping and beheading is a new form used by the Ndayishimiye power to complete the genocide of the Tutsi that they started long ago. This new practice also tends to confirm the secret relations that Evariste Ndayishimiye has had with the FDRL for a long time. If he does not manage to detach himself from these men, the Burundians will never have peace, the sub-region will also suffer the consequences. The international community should therefore keep a vigilant eye on Gitega and not be content with the enticing words of the new authorities. Once again, those who rush to start cooperation with this power will one day have to take responsibility for everything that could happen to the Burundians tomorrow.
